I'll suggest more as jwpepper is updated, but here's what I think is worth looking at after a quick run through the site:

And apparently I broke the site and it's not working anymore right now. So I'll definitely have more suggestions later. Trick trickster 02:01, March 25, 2007 (EDT) Working again....here's some more

Thanks, those are some great suggestions. I'm going online soon to see what I can find. I now declare this page the idea box of pep band songs we can purchase/play. Drummer52987 09:17, March 25, 2007 (EDT)

Of those songs, I like these the best (just my $0.02):

  • Johnny B. Goode
  • Layla (if we can make it crisp)
  • Rebel Yell
  • Seven Nation Army (except for the ending, which is just weird)

The ones I like are:

  • Dr. Feelgood
  • Layla
  • Rebel Yell
  • Seven Nation Army
  • Spirit in the Sky
  • Superfly
  • Johnny B. Goode

I'm also going to see what I can do about arranging "Limelight" or finding it. Drummer52987 21:49, March 25, 2007 (EDT)

Not that I'll get to play much of any of these songs, but sure, I'll throw in some thoughts. I liked these:

  • Freebird - If they have the guitar part optional, and the solo written somewhere else, it's worth a shot. Otherwise, forget about it.
  • Layla (I'm with Gary, only if it'll be clean)
  • Rebel Yell
  • Seven Nation Army - This sounded like a great song; then it ended. I listened to it three times before I was sure there wasn't something wrong with Realplayer. Not only does weird not begin to describe it, it's going to be damn near impossible to pull off. If the trumpets get ambitious next year, this'll be a great song otherwise.
  • Spirit in the Sky
  • Johnny B. Goode
  • House of the Rising Sun - While I'm a fan, a lot of people are going to think this isn't very peppy, and they're probably right.

All in all, with a couple of these songs, we'll have an excuse to bring the gong to more hockey games ;) HLPXX 22:28, March 25, 2007 (EDT)

Out of the ones listed, the ones I like best are Dr. Feelgood, Superfly, Rebel Yell, and Seven Nation Army(except for the godawful ending). I also really like Johnny B. Goode, but we need to go to the library to make sure the one we have isn't the same arrangement (I think it's 150 something). Trick trickster 23:35, March 25, 2007 (EDT)

  • It's 154 in the library. Gary 00:27, March 26, 2007 (EDT)

About the seven nation army ending: it does suck. But I think it can be easily fixed by having the trumpets play the normal chord and adding a good stinger. Drummer52987 00:08, March 26, 2007 (EDT)

Some more songs I was looking at:

I really like this one. While it's not in our usual style, I think that's a good thing. The trombone part follows the tubas for the most part, so it's ok if there aren't a lot of them. Mellos get the melody, and the trumpets are pushed to the background a lot. Not that I'd be getting much of a chance to play it, but it sounds nice. HLPXX 23:37, April 23, 2007 (EDT)

Out of what's listed, I like Me & Julio, House of the Rising Sun, Spirit in the Sky, and Johnny B. Goode. Ok, so maybe I'm old or something. If memory serves the Johnny B. Goode in the library isn't very good, but I would recommend reading through it at least once before buying it (maybe ask folks to stick around after a rehearsal for a few minutes, one to a part, to make sure you get a balanced sound to test it with).
