The Toll Booth Song is sung by the members of the band on all road trips whenever the bus passes through a toll booth. A line is added to the song during the first road trip of the Spring semester each year to commemorate that year's [[conductor]]. The song's origins are unknown by the current members of the band, though it would seem likely that it started sometime in the early 1990's as the list of [[Conductor|conductors]] in the song is roughly that long.

During the October 2008 trip the band, team, fans, and Vermont's team stayed at the [http://www.hotelambassadeur.ca Hôtel Ambassadeur]. The hotel is a 5-6 minute cab ride from Old Québec.

=What to do=
Old Québec (''Vieux-Québec'') is a good place to walk around, with plenty of places for food, drinks, and shopping. It's a European style city that is the only remaining walled North American city north of Mexico.

This cheer (much like [[I'm Blind, I'm Deaf]]) is used to express one's disatisfaction with the job done by the referee during the game.

While on a road trip to [[Quinnipiac University|Quinnipiac]] in [[2005-2006#February 17-18, 2006|February 2006]], the band timed this cheer perfectly such that the ref skated directly in front of the band as the word bastard was screamed.

It's Friday Night

This cheer is typically done when we're on a power play and the team isn't taking a lot of shots, but can be used any time our offense is overly hesitant to take shots.

Someone from the band will yell ''"It's [F]riday night!"'', to which the band will reply ''"Take some shots!"''. Friday is replaced with whatever day it is, and night is replaced with whatever time of day it is. The cheer originated from the obvious double entendre on shots, meaning both to shoot the puck and to take a shot of liquor.

There are several variations of this that are used should we need to use this cheer more than once in a game. One of them has someone from the band yelling ''"You're not drunk yet!"'' to be followed by ''"Take more shots!"''. Another is ''"She's still ugly!"'', again followed by ''"Take more shots!"''. The last one is seldom done above a spoken tone because of its offensive nature. There can also be many other variations of this cheer, limited only by the creativity of the members of the band.

Free Beer

=About this cheer=
There are two versions of this cheer, the football and the hockey version. The football version is as written in the cheer sheet, and the slight difference is that in the hockey version, the vocal part is cut, with no pause where it would have been. This is due to the fact that there are no endzones or suitable analogies in hockey.

This cheer is based loosely on the military's Mess Call, a [b]ugle call used to announce meals.

=History=
[[Jim Cronen]] started using Free Beer as a hockey cheer, just to increase the available repertoire of cheers. To differentiate the two versions of the cheer, the hockey version was announced as "Free Beer Minus Two Measures". Because it was clear when the two versions of the cheer were to be played, both versions eventually were called just "Free Beer".

When the conductor calls this cheer, it is customary for the band to yell "Where?".

Dutchman's Shoes

The [D]utchman's Shoes are a trophy awarded to the winner of the annual college football game between the RPI Engineers and the [[Union College]] Dutchmen since 1950. As of the end of the 2010 season these two schools have played each other 110 times dating back to 1886, making it the oldest football rivalry in the state of New York. The trophy consists of a wooden base, with two clogs mounted on a small pedestal, with one painted red with a white letter "R" and the other maroon with a white letter "U" for Rensselaer and Union, respectively. In [[2012-2013|2012]], the rivalry had it's first overtime game in history, with the Dutchmen winning 34-28 after one overtime. Clarkson University is the second furthest [[ECAC]] venue from RPI (only [[St. Lawrence University|St. Lawrence]] is further, and only by a few miles). Located in Potsdam, NY, it is only about 20 miles from the St. Lawrence River, which marks the border between the state of New York and the Canadian providence of Ontario.

Cheel Arena is arguably the nicest rink in the ECAC. As opposed to the [[Houston Field House]], which lies far from the core of RPI's campus, Cheel Arena is actually part of Clarkson's student union. It is well lit, has ample seating (though still only 3/5 as much as the Houston Field House), and is generally a very nice arena. Do not take these compliments to suggest that the trip to Clarkson is a pleasant one, however.

Cheel Arena is the least inviting of any of the venues we travel to. Clarkson fans are loud and obnoxious, even more so than [[Union College|Union]]'s. During recent trips several band members were verbally threatened by fans or had trash thrown at them, and there have been attempts at setting the [[Big Flag|flag]] on fire. It is somewhat surprising that a fight hasn't broken out in recent memory, though there have been several close calls.

[[Clarkson Pep Band|Clarkson's band]] is no better than their fans. They are equally loud and obnoxious, and show no respect for visiting bands. They will play over us, taunt us, and generally do anything they can to make us feel unwelcome. They also have a rather annoying habit of attempting to show up visiting bands (or home bands, when they travel). They will scream something to the effect of "''Hey <other team>'s band. This is how a real pep band is supposed to sound!''" Apparently, however, it is their band's opinion that pep bands are supposed to sound horrifically out of tune. This was especially apparent when they did this during RPI's trip in [[2004-2005|2005]], when their band surrounded ours and started playing [[135 - Louie, Louie|Louie, Louie]]. After a few bars we joined in, and generally outplayed Clarkson's band in both volume and quality, even though the band was outnumbered nearly 2 to 1.

In addition to being a very unpleasant place to go to, getting to and from Potsdam is a problem in and of itself. No major highways go anywhere near Potsdam, lengthening an already long trip. This was compounded in [[2004-2005|2005]], when the game took place during a blizzard - with no accommodations arranged for the night after the Saturday game, the band had no choice but to leave Potsdam and travel back to Troy. The band's bus followed the team's bus slowly down the nearly impassible roads, and did not arrive back in Troy until after 4:00 AM.

=Where to stay=
In [[2004-2005|2005]], the band rented out a significant portion of a small resort named "The Stone Fence" in Ogdensburg/Morristown, including two nice town houses for the senior members. It also had a fine view of Canada across the river. These cabins proved to be very nice locations for Friday night's obligatory road trip party. The resort was also very inexpensive, as the middle of the winter is not exactly high season for a summer resort. The resort is a bit of a drive from Potsdam (nearly an hour), but it is worth the trip.

=What to do=
Unfortunately, there's not really much to do around Potsdam. During the band's trip to the North Country in 2005 they spent the bulk of their Saturday at the St. Lawrence Centre, a mall in Massena which has a public indoor skating rink in addition to a food court and a small assortment of stores.

The current system of two associate and two executive managers has not always been in place. Before the Spring 2019 semester, the band had only two concurrently elected managers. One election was held per year and there was an understood one-year commitment that the electee would serve. A manager will henceforth serve one semester as associate manager, and one semester as executive manager. Before the mid-1980s, the band had a senior band manager and an assistant band manager. One election was held per year and there was an understood two-year commitment that the electee would serve the first year as assistant manager and the second year as senior manager.

=Past Managers=
The current system of two associate and two executive managers has not always been in place. Before the Spring 2019 semester, the band had only two concurrently elected managers. One election was held per year and there was an understood one-year commitment that the electee would serve. A manager will henceforth serve one semester as associate manager, and one semester as executive manager. Before the mid-1980s, the band had a senior band manager and an assistant band manager. One election was held per year and there was an understood two-year commitment that the electee would serve the first year as assistant manager and the second year as senior manager.

Below, starting in S2019, the two executive managers managers served with and mentored two associate managers. The term below reflects the total two semester term.
