Though it's located a short distance away from downtown Providence, the rooms were nice and a free continental breakfast was provided. Some members of the band pointed out that if people were willing to go three to a room, the band could have stayed at more expensive hotels in downtown Providence.
What to do
If the band has a large amount of time to kill in Providence before the game, the Providence Place Mall is a good place to go. If the band has less time before the game, there are a number of stores and restaurants just a few blocks from the rink on Thayer Street.

About this song
"Shake a Tail Feather" was written by Verlie Rice, Otha Hayes, and Andre Williams. It was originally recorded by The Five Du-Tones in 1963 and famously covered by Ray Charles in the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers. This version of the song was arranged by Tom Wallace.

Instrumentation requirements
A strong trombone section is needed to carry the melody in the beginning. There should be at least one sousa/bari sax to keep the song moving in the beginning (where the trombones have the melody), as the music is pretty exposed in this part. Cowbell also really should be covered.

Roadmap
A 16 bar solo section is mercifully cut from the original sheet music, as well as an extended ending (featuring a "soul scream" in the percussion section). The original music was transcribed and edited to remove these parts by Chris Behrens in 2009 and is now played as written.
In the past, members of the band would start playing the refrain to this song towards the end of a game (typically within the last two minutes) in which the Engineers have a substantial lead. In a sometimes daring move, other members of the band would join in, playing quietly while play is going on, which could potentially draw a pentalty against our team, and then continue playing the same refrain very loudly when play stops. When play resumes the band goes back to playing quietly. It is customary for some members of the band and the audience to wave "bye-bye" to the oposing team whilst this is going on. This act of bursting into this song somewhat spontaneously only works if it has been rehearsed a few times, and members informed of which measures to play. It is up to the person starting this song that they play it in the correct (written) key.

Unless the band reads the song differently than written, the roadmap is pretty straightforward. There are two repeats (both with 1st/2nd endings), and a DS back to measure 5, going to the coda after measure 24.

No, I think James is right. On my copy I have a note that there was a cut in the middle to make it a little shorter, but I don't have the specific measures marked. Perhaps someone from just before our time might have it? TrekMuse 17:19, June 26, 2008 (UTC)
A balanced band of any size will probably work, but this is a song that needs have been practiced - not a lot of people will be able to sight read it well.
Roadmap
The repeat from A to E is cut out, as it makes the song a better length to be played by a pep band (a little less than 2 minutes as opposed to a little less than 3). It should be noted that the entire band minus percussion is in unison in section D. The D.S. goes back to section D, with the fine being on the 'a' of 3 (3 e + a) before E.
