Regarding Freeze Frame, you might want to contact Steele about it. When I put together Active Set 2003-2006, I started by pulling parts from the file cabinet with the originals. Mike Brown didn't explain until later that I shouldn't've gotten the parts from there, but instead from a safeguard he set up (when he overhauled the library) for librarian use. The only effect of my having gone to the drawers was (aside from generating a ton of extra work for myself) that there are/were two printings of Freeze Frame. As I understand it, Steele wrote the first draft to the recording - and as such it has all the intricate harmonies and background rhythms. Then some parts were re-written to make the tune more useable (rather than needing every part to be covered and balanced). By the time we found this, Mike Brown and I had already re-set that librarian's safeguard and the versions were mixed together (he didn't recall at the time that the first version was still in the drawers). You may save yourself some noticable time and effort by contacting Steele (through the Alumni group?) to see if he still has the original parts. TrekMuse 09:14, October 18, 2007 (EDT)
:Most of the work's already done. Once one part is entered into Sibelius, for the most part the rest is cut and paste. All I'm missing right now is Trumpet 2/3, which is going to be collapsed into one part (as they all will eventually be, no doubt). Most of the work involved from here on out is going to be cleaning up the rhythms cosmetically to make them easier to read, putting in rehearsal markings, changing the instrumentation around to make more sense, and redoing the percussion parts (including adding a glock, tenor drum, and aux. perc. part). I'm also toying around with changing the ending, but I'll finish everything else before I try anything with that. Trick trickster 17:19, October 18, 2007 (EDT)

First off, I hope I clicked the right button and this works...but anyway. So for Natural Noise intramurals, I'm thinking a page describing the teams as the main Natural Noise Intramurals page (how long they've been around, who started them, that kind of thing - general stuff), with links to the different sports we have/have had teams for. On those individual sport pages, a quick description or overview of the seasons, and then list the past team captains and/or any notable things about the season (rosters would be cool too). I guess for hockey there'd be a description of the team before we spilt into two, and then a link to Red and Black from there, perhaps. Thoughts? The original version of this song, by CCR, is just over 3 minutes in length. Our arrangement, played at the correct tempo, would be about the same. The song, however, is not particularly "peppy", so at some point, it was decided that the song should be played faster. This modification snowballed into an odd tradition of playing the song as fast as humanly possible - previously referred to as "on crack" in order to differentiate from playing it normally. The current "record time" on this song is somewhere around 42 seconds, which translates to a tempo of approximately quarter note = 360, or about 6 beats per second.

At the recording of America's Pep Band in 2001, it was clocked at 56.5 seconds.
*Unless anyone objects, I'm going to make a separate quotes page for each year since we started keeping track of years. On this page, I'll keep two or three of the best quotes from each year, and have the year title link to the separate page with all of the quotes from that year. That way we can have people putting whatever they want to remember on the wiki, but not have to search through a page of hundreds of quotes to find the ones that everyone remembers (as opposed to the ones that only a few people heard firsthand). This page is just in desperate need of cleaning up. If no one objects by Thursday, I'm just going to go ahead and do it. "...unethical for bands who are not in the Championship Tournament to be present there." Gee, you get that feeling too? Shame that all the other bands will be there anyway, and we can have a big unethical band party while Clarkson mopes and makes pouty faces at us. Nevermind that the league, the arena, the rest of the bands, and the fans would all like to see this happen. Gary 15:38, September 17, 2007 (EDT)
They've never shown any desire to get along with any of the other band's in the ECAC (except Brown supposedly) so it's not any huge surprise to me that they don't want to try to start now.
*Trombones - Guillotine!
*Alto Saxes and Mellophones - Start the song out by holding your horn straight out in front of you, out of your mouth, and shake it up and down with each quarter note from beat one of measure 1. At measure 9, swing your horn left on beat one and right on beat three in a smooth motion. One or two measures before measure 13, bring the horn to your mouth and get ready to play (still swinging, of course). At measure 13, keep swinging the horn and play the melody. THIS WILL REQUIRE PRACTICE. The normal fingerings for the notes are very hard to play while swinging your horn, so I suggest practicing playing the melody without the octave key to give you more support at the top of your horn. At measure 21, take the horn out of your mouth and bring it out in front of you and to your left, shaking it up and down for each quarter note and bringing it to your right continuously for two measures, timing it so that you end on your right. Do this nine times, bringing you to measure 39. At this time, swing your horn the same way you were at measure 13, and get ready to play. Swing and play starting at measure 41. It should be much easier this time around. At measure 47, stop swinging and play regularly. In measures 50, 52, and 54, there should each be three notes. For the second note in each of these measures, while playing lean back and tilt your horn in the air. On the last held note of measure 61, begin to squat down while you're decrescendoing. In measures 64-66, stand up a little in each measure as you are crescendoing, until you are fully standing in measure 66. In measure 68, as you are yelling "Yeah!" throw your fist in the air.
*Flutes & Clarinets - Pretty much the same as the saxes, only from measures 13-21 don't sway back and forth. In the days of yore the section did sway as described above, but due to laziness/lack of coordination it is no longer done.
*Digitizing the Library
:I have found a copier that will scan pages and email them as pdfs. This removes my need for someone else's scanner, and perhaps will make it possible for me to start digitizing the pep band library as a safety precaution against part loss. Anyone can use the copier, however to get to it, your ID card needs special access. If anyone else has a scanner and wants to scan music, I will not stop you. I am offering my talk page as a means of tracking which songs have been scanned, so that organization can be made easier. I figure that one of the younger band members can eventually start burning these to dvd (I only say younger because T40s don't have dvd burners -.-' I realize this project will take much longer than the time I have left at RPI, it's just that it'll never get done until it gets started.
::A question and a suggestion: where are you keeping the scanned versions right now, and can you scan handwritten parts first? Hail, Alma mater, and the Rensselaer Union march are three songs that come to mind. Also, you might want to make mention next to each song scanned if any of the parts need touched up in photoshop. Trick trickster 00:14, February 28, 2007 (EST)
:::As of now, the one song I have scanned is on my computer. We could centralize the data, I'm just not sure how readily available I should make copies of copyrighted media. If we don't care, I'll put them on my RPI webspace. I agree that handwritten parts get scanned first - I only scanned 112 because I had it, and to make sure the method worked. Finally, if we're going to go into photoshop, I'll have to talk to someone about borrowing a cd or 4...
<br>
*On arranging. Walking on the Sun and some sort of something from Pirates of the Carribbean were pieces I was considering. I'm interested to see what you've got and offer input if you'd like. TrekMuse 07:15, June 6, 2007 (EDT)
<br>
*On Fat Bottomed Girls (insert joke here -HLPXX): Getting the rhythms down are going to be the hardest part of this. Altos have the melody! A pretty interesting part the whole way through too, even the backgrounds. I definitely approve. That's a crazy quad break in there. Some of the parts sounded unnatural the last time I heard where you were, but those seem to have been fixed. Won't know until we play it, but I think it will sound great, especially if we have a large band when we play it. ===Songs that have been digitized===
*041 - Hail, Dear Old Rensselaer - who knew there was 3rd trombone and 3rd clarinet (and also Eb clar.) parts?
**Similar to Malaguena, some parts didn't want to scan nicely. I'm going to fix this.
::UPDATE -18:17, April 13, 2007 (EDT): The following parts do not wish to be scanned, at least legibly, by the scanner I'm using. Someone else is welcome to try to get better scans of:<br>
::*The ORIGINAL flute/picc part
::*The NEW flute part (hail only, alma mater scans fine)
::*ALL clarinet 1 parts (original hail, new hail (has no 1st/2nd distinction) and new alma mater)
::*The new clarinet 2 alma mater
::*3rd cornet
*112 - Malaguena
**For some reason, a handful of the parts did not want to scan like the rest of them - flute, tuba and snare drum. They're legible, just not totally clean - no worse than a song that's been copied and recopied a number of times. I'll try rescanning them soon.

Instrumentation requirements
Roadmap
History
In the past, members of the band would start playing the refrain to this song towards the end of a game (typically within the last two minutes) in which the Engineers have a substantial lead. In a sometimes daring move, other members of the band would join in, playing quietly while play is going on, which could potentially draw a pentalty against our team, and then continue playing the same refrain very loudly when play stops. When play resumes the band goes back to playing quietly. It is customary for some members of the band and the audience to wave "bye-bye" to the oposing team whilst this is going on. This act of bursting into this song somewhat spontaneously only works if it has been rehearsed a few times, and members informed of which measures to play. It is up to the person starting this song that they play it in the correct (written) key.
On our 2006 visit to Princeton, the Princeton band sported an electric bass and a viaola.
About this cheer
Arranged by Tim Tesluk '07

This is the main theme song from the whacky japanese game for the Plastation 2 game console: Katamari Damacy. This game must be played at least once to fully appreciate the music. It is a game which inspired a large cult following, and one or more sequals.

Instrumentation requirements
This cheer sounds wrong if there is not at least one or two people covering each basic instrument. There are a lot of different melodic lines and rhythms going on at once. Probably one of the most difficult cheers on the cheer sheets.

History
This cheer was added to the cheer sheets in January 2007, when the cheer sheets were rewritten to add songs and make the print more legible.

During the rewrite, this cheer underwent the most changes of any added. Due to range and voicing issues, parts were shifted many times. While listening to the computerized cheer sheets in arranging meetings, it was pointed out that this cheer has exposed some of the funnier shortcomings of MIDI playback, including ridiculous exaggeration of glissandi and a compounding 8va marking.

stub
