About the song
Written by Robert Lamm.
Arranged by William Lasinger.
Originally recorded by Chicago.
Instrumentation requirements
This song needs a strong band all around, but particularly trumpets and low brass.
Roadmap
Played as written. While most of the song is fast rock, in the 5th measure of the coda, the song slows significantly, and continues to ritard to the end.
History
A running tradition is that after the conductor calls the song, belting "72, 25 or 6 to 4", it is customary for the band to respond "Hike!", imitating a football quarterback calling plays to the line.
This song was played with the Cornell Pep Band when they visited during the 2006-2007 season.
