About this cheer

  • This cheer is based on the song "Working in the Coal Mine", originally recorded by Lee Dorsey in 1966. Devo also recorded this song in 1981, coming up with a version that sounds much more like the one we play.

Instrumentation requirements

  • This cheer works with nearly any instrumentation. Ideally there should be a good low brass section to carry on the bass line through the melody B section, but if necessary this can be played by anyone as the band starts off in unison.

History

  • After the 2007 rewrite, the "coda" of the cheer was reduced to one phrase as opposed to two prior to the rewrite.
