About this song

Written by Ian Hunter.
arranged by Michael Sweeney.
Originally recorded by The Presidents of the United States of America.

Instrumentation requirements

Trombones, baritones, tenor saxes, and clarinets have the melody from measures 9 to 17. Other than that pretty much any band will work, ideally with good balance so that the "Cleveland rocks!" parts don't end up sounding like "BOP BOP BOP!".

Roadmap

This arrangement ends on beat 4, which usually catches people off guard the first time through.

History

This is the theme song to the 1995 TV series The Drew Carey Show.
This song was introduced by Tim Tesluk during the 2005-2006 season, but has seldom been played outside of rehearsal because of the lack of trombones at the time and the monotony of the arrangement.
During the 2006-2007 season, it was proposed that the lyrics to the song be changed from "Cleveland rocks" to "Clarkson sucks".
