The Houston Field House is the location of the rink for Rensselaer home hockey games. It seats 5,217 people, the largest rink in the ECAC, and was the only rink with a stage for the Pep Band until the 2010-2011 season when the stage was removed and the Pep Band was moved to the stands. Being the largest hockey rink in ECAC league, it was also used for various events such as concerts and other sports. It is located on Peoples Avenue, just off Burdett Avenue.

History

The original building was constructed in Rhode Island, sometime during WWII to serve as a warehouse for U.S. Navy. After the war, many leftover war buildings were donated the universities to account for an increase in enrollment of students, and in 1949 the warehouse was reconstructed to become the Field House. It is named after Dr. Livingston W. Houston, the eleventh president of RPI.
