The Inanimate carbon rod is another unofficial mascot of the band. It was frequently used to run against conductor or managerial candidates that were running unopposed, to keep up the appearances of democratic procedure.

When Charlie beat the ICR during the 2003 elections, he destroyed the rod and threw it into the dumpster. Therefore, even though the Inanimate carbon rod was never technically alive, it is now considered deceased.

The Inanimate carbon rod is a reference to The Simpsons episode 1F13, Deep Space Homer.
