Before I touch this any more, I want to make sure that everyone thinks it's a good idea. Also, if anyone can come up with a better description (shouldn't be too hard), go for it. Trick trickster 00:31, May 1, 2007 (EDT)

So, would this be a recurring thing, where there will be Category:Active Songs (2006-2007), Category:Active Songs (2007-2008), and so on? If this is the eventual plan, I see certain songs (Carry On comes to mind) being in waaaay too many categories. Just my $0.02 HLPXX 00:37, May 1, 2007 (EDT)
Well I was figuring we'd only make a new category for major overhauls of the active set. Unless there's a really easy way to categorize each song with a range of years so that the active set can be searched year by year without having all of the separate categories that this system would require. But I doubt there is anything that easy. Trick trickster 00:44, May 1, 2007 (EDT)
Maybe not so much categorizing each song, but you could make a page titled "Active set 2003-06" or something, with links to each song in that set. I imagine it's about the same amount of work, only this way, the link goes both ways. As long as it's only for major overhauls, it sounds like a good idea to me. We get to see the evolution of the active set. HLPXX 00:58, May 1, 2007 (EDT)
The active set overhaul in the summer of 2003 was the first time that sort of thing had been done since Mike Brown built the current library infrastructure (and the previous active set) in 1996. From that time forward, the only changes were adding the new songs for the year to the end of the set (usually done in August when new copies were made before the first rehearsal since tunes were usually ordered at the end of the prior year's budget). As I understand it, a similar re-structuring was done recently, creating a new active set. So, I guess lets start with the cross-referencing ability a Category would offer and if it seems cumbersome, we'll switch. Thankfully, with such a small dataset (3 active sets) it won't be too hard to change. TrekMuse 09:34, May 1, 2007 (EDT)

I decided to start this. It was obvious to me that no one disagreed with this category's creation. If I'm wrong, I stopped at 50 so cleanup wouldn't be that hard. HLPXX 22:45, May 6, 2007 (EDT)

Looking good so far. Out of curiosity, when I built the set I had photocopies of the scores made and blown up onto legal size or B size paper. I don't know if they're being used (in fact, I doubt it) but they'd be very useful for writing up info on all these and for future arranging. Any chance someone could take a look in the pep band closet in the library and see if they're still there? I'll gladly pay for shipping and/or pick them up on the weekend of the 18th. The scores you're talking about are indeed in the pep band closet (at least they were as of 5 months ago, I haven't been in there lately). That brings up a question I have: do you know where the parts to 434 - Summon the Heroes are? The score is with the others, but we have no idea where the parts for it are. Trick trickster 14:17, May 8, 2007 (EDT)
I noticed that on the songs page. It's possible they ended up misplaced in with my things, or simply somewhere else in the library. The next couple boxes of things from home may have them and I'm planning on going through them soon, so I'll keep an eye out. Hopefully they'll be there. I mean, I'll type the parts off the score, but I'd rather not have to. I'll keep you up to date. Let me know if you'll be around on the 19th or so and I'll hopefully have parts to deliver and pick up the scores. TrekMuse 14:38, May 8, 2007 (EDT)

I have a trumpet 2 set that I've been using to fill in which songs were in this set. Since it's trumpet 2, it's either from '03-'04 or '04-'05, and there's no guarantee that I haven't lost a few pages. Feel free to fill in what I've missed. HLPXX 20:45, May 9, 2007 (EDT)
